Notes to Aqdas, Sentence #180
Notes from the Authorized Translation
106. God hath ... abolished the concept of
"uncleanness", whereby divers things and peoples have been
held to be impure. # 75
The concept of ritual "uncleanness", as understood and
practised in some tribal societies and in the religious
communities of certain earlier Dispensations, has been
abolished by Baha'u'llah. He states that through His
Revelation "all created things were immersed in the sea of
purification". (See also notes 12, 20, and 103.)
Anton Haddad's Notes
(This refers to the Shiites - followers of Ali - who believe that certain
things and nations are impure.)
Earl Elder's Notes
1. Many things in Islamic law were considered ceremonially impure, such an swine, dogs and
dead bodies. One who touches such objects has to perform certain purifying rites. Also according to the law of Shi'ite Islam, people of other religions, such an Jews and Christians, are unclean.
Baha'u'llah abrogates these laws and returns to the teachings of Jesus Christ (Mark 7: 18 f.).
