This project was conceived as the result of not finding anything on the Internet in electronic format which performed in the way in which I wanted it to perform. There are many very good electronic versions available, but I wanted something which could be read from front to back as a book, and also included an electronic version of the very excellent index at the back of the book - not one of the electronic versions I have seen provide this index. It had to be simple to use, and usable on any computer available today without recompiling and rewriting of the code. I also wanted to be able to cross-reference the Kitáb-i-Aqdas to the many excellent official Compilations available, as well as provide historical information on every place, person and event mentioned in the Kitáb-i-Aqdas. The other addition required is a dictionary to all the words in the Kitáb-i-Aqdas which could be regarded as not 'simple' or which are not English and not explained within the Book itself. |
That it had to be usable on every computer available today reduced options in format to only one choice - HTML. Every person who has access to a web browser is able to view HTML pages. This format, though so generic, also has the drawback of a certain lack of flexibility in presentation unless one uses Java and so forth. |
The decision has been made to restrict coding to the use of only standard HTML 4.0, excepting where needed to produce pop-ups. This means that even some of the older browsers still in use may be able to access it. It also means that coding is simplified, with less risk of error in coding. |
As well as presenting the Kitáb-i-Aqdas from cover to cover, additional navigation was conceived as needed, thus the right hand column of hyperlinks on the Table of Contents page. These enable one to access directly any individual page whether by number or by opening phrase. |
In this second release, the compilation on Peace, and The Promise of World Peace - A Statement by the Universal House of Justice have been incorporated. The Supplementary Index has been added, though at this point it only has entries which relate directly to the word 'Peace'. Forward indexing has been placed within the text going directly into the Supplementary Index to the entry on 'Peace'. |
It is hoped that the presentation of yet another electronic version of the Most Holy Book will prove of assistance in the understanding and comprehension of this most great and most precious Pearl of the Revelation of Bahá'u'lláh |
