To determine the span of time between a date BC and a date AD,
recall that one year is missing in the Christian calendar, since,
by the ancient Roman reckoning, Jesus was born at One AD instead
of Zero. Thus, for example, the span of time in solar years from
602 BC until 1844 AD is approximately
1844 + 602 - 1 = 2445 solar years.
The same time span in lunar years is approximately
2445 x 1.03069 = 2520 lunar years or 7 "times."
To convert a date in the Christian solar calendar to its
approximate Muslim lunar equivalent, recall that the Hegira
occurred in 622 AD. Thus 1844 AD is approximately
(1844-622) x (1.03069) = 1259.5 AH
Because of leap years, different starting points in the seasons
of the different calendars, and other irregularities, the
conversion between calendar dates as derived in the above manner
may be in error by a year or so.
Many ancient dates are disputed by various authorities.
