  • All items here are either public domain or posted with permission of author and/or publisher. Full copyright restrictions apply to ones which have been published: large portions may not be excerpted and printed without permission of the publisher, and full citations must be given (see also notes on copyright).

Given the many different lengths of published items, classification as an "article" is sometimes arbitrary. Anything published in a collection of pieces, including journals and books, is classified as an article. For the rest, items under 50 pages are automatically classified as articles or essays and items over 75 pages are automatically classified as books. Items of 51-74 pages are classified based on subjective criteria such as venue of publication, formatting structure (e.g., whether broken into chapters), and length. Monographs are classified as articles, regardless of length. Theses and dissertations are in their own collection. Published articles that have little scholarly or historical content are classified as essays. Some published articles might have been filed as conference papers.
